Tenuta Albrizzi Cabernet Sauvignon Primitivo 2023

Flavor Profile
Angelo Maci, the legendary winemaker behind many of our best-selling Italian reds, came to us with an exciting proposition. He wanted to create a bold new red to rival some of Italy’s most prestigious bottlings. Inspired by the ‘Super Tuscan’ tradition––which blends international grapes with native varieties––he set out to create a southern counterpart. Tenuta Albrizzi is the delicious, red- and black-fruited ‘Super Puglian’ result.
The wine is a combo of internationally lauded Cabernet Sauvignon and Primitivo, Puglia’s signature red, known as the ‘Godfather’ of southern Italian grapes. Loved for its deep, dark character, it adds layers of ripe cherry, blackberry and spice to rich, chocolatey Cab. All the grapes grow on prized ancient vines––low-yielding heirlooms that contribute an abundance of concentrated flavor to Angelo’s wines.
It certainly proves why Angelo is such a BIG name in Puglia. The force behind our wildly popular Pillastro wines and a repeat winner of Vinitaly’s Winemaker of the Year award, his winery, Cantine Due Palme, is also notable. A cooperative, it has more than 1,000 grower members that work to obtain the highest quality grapes. On one hand, the operation is a champion of the region’s great traditions, while on the other, it prides itself on its pioneering techniques. The hard work, passion and dedication that powers the business has earned it multiple awards, including Gambero Rosso’s Cooperative Cellar of the Year in both 2021 and 2023.
If you’ve yet to try the wines from this exciting producer, this red will make a terrific introduction.
