Beyond the Label

As savvy Cabernet fans have discovered, Paso Robles is “one of the most dynamic wine regions in California” (Wine Spectator). In addition to dozens of serious, $100-plus-a-bottle releases from the leading estates, you'll also find some terrific values here. This was especially true in 2016 – the latest in a string of incredible California vintages. And République is your perfect, barrel-aged introduction, sporting a 91-point gold medal from the 2018 San Francisco International Wine Competition.

République was crafted by veteran winemaker Clay Brock with prime grapes sourced from top-sited vineyards in the rolling hills of Paso Robles. The ideal growing season produced especially thick-skinned Cabernet grapes, giving the wine deeper color and fuller body. Both the exceptional quality of the vintage and Clay’s deft hand in the cellar are evident in this fine Cabernet.

What can you expect in the glass? Heady aromas of black currant, plum, and toasted tobacco leaf – oak aging (in French and American barrels) adds hints of toasty spice. This Cabernet has velvety tannins, a round finish and showcases Paso Robles’s classic, intense character and fresh zip. It's already drinking deliciously, and will gain further complexity with a few years in the cellar. République is fantastic with braised short ribs, strip steaks or vegetarian chili, and is also smooth enough to enjoy on its own.
