Beyond the Label

“Portugal is now gushing with stunning wines and yes, stunning deals.”
Wine Spectator

There has been a serious wine renaissance happening in Portugal. This country may be small geographically, but it is a veritable powerhouse, producing wines of superb quality and flavor at prices other countries just can’t match.

Our expert on the ground has his foot in the door at all the right estates. That was how he came upon this luxurious red – it’s from the renowned estate of Magnum Carlos Lucas Vinhos, whose eponymous proprietor was named Winemaker of the Year by the prestigious Portuguese publication, Revista de Vinhos.

One day, Carlos gave us a taste of his private Reserve red – and we did everything we could to get a few cases secured for our customers. After some cajoling, we struck a deal – and you get to reap the oh-so-tasty rewards.

The blend comprises deeply colored Trincadeira (40%), plummy Touriga Nacional (40%), and strawberry-fruited Aragonez (20%) and was aged for five months in small, French oak barrels. Hints of red cherries and strawberries plus baking spices and light toast notes mingle on the nose. The palate is rich in complex, black-fruit flavor and has great structure, with a long, smooth finish. It's perfect with a big, meaty meal or a plate of cheeses, and is guaranteed to impress your guests.

Very few cases imported – make sure one of them is yours.
