Beyond the Label

From the very first sip, lovers of aromatic white wines will fall head over heels for Lobo e Falcão Branco. Bursting with peachy notes and gentle spice, it’s crafted by winemaker Joana Lopes at Lobo de Vasconcelos’ renowned, historic family estate in Tejo.

The wine blends native Portuguese grapes—Fernão Pires, plus Alvarinho and Moscatel (also known elsewhere as, Albariño and Moscato)—with Sauvignon Blanc, varieties that thrive in sandy soils and ripen to perfection under the Portuguese sun. Gentle oak aging imparts further complexity and roundness.

The resulting wine is beautifully balanced, wafting aromas of juicy-ripe peach, fresh melon and orange blossom, followed by a crisp, bright palate of stone fruits and spice. Wonderfully aromatic, with a long and refreshing finish, it’s a top pick for Asian-style meals (especially noodle bowls, pad Thai or classic pork egg foo young), seafoods, vegetarian stews and more.

Today, the estate has a fully modern winery and in early 2024, earned a Sustainability Certification from ViniPortugal (the official association of the Portuguese wine industry). They are proudly the first and only winery in Tejo to earn this title, thanks to implementing various "green" approaches. (To name a few: promoting biodiversity in the vineyard, efficient water management, composting for organic fertilization, using renewable energy sources and reuse of materials with a lower carbon footprint.)
