Flavor Profile
Spain may not be the first country that comes to mind when you’re after a top-quality, great-value Cab, but it definitely deserves your attention. The dark and earthy La Cueva Cabernet Sauvignon is one you won’t want to miss.
La Cueva hails from Bodegas Ruberte in Spain’s rugged Campo de Borja. With a winemaking history dating back to 1203, this region is perfectly suited to growing grape vines. Its hot climate allows thick-skinned grapes like Cabernet to ripen fully, while the well-draining soils force vines to bury their roots deep in search of water and nutrients, making for lower yields of more complex grapes.
Once the grapes are harvested from the vineyards, a team of talented women winemakers take over in the cellar. Susana Ruberte, the family’s matriarch, works alongside her two daughters, Alicia and Ana, while expert winemaker Pamela Geddes, who has decades of experience at famous estates Penfolds and Torres, oversees the whole process.
The team then ages the wine in La Cueva, the Bodega family’s ancient cellar. Carved into the mountainside overlooking the town of Borja, it was hand-dug by their ancestors over 500 years ago. Inside its cool, dark caverns, the Cab can mellow to perfection, resulting in an elegant wine with expressive dark fruit, tobacco and peppery spice characters.
Order your share of this unique Cabernet today. Then, when it arrives, enjoy it alongside Spanish tapas, roasted lamb, suckling pig and more.
