This Private Reserve Saint-Emilion was crafted exclusively for you by Christian Moueix, formerly of Château Pétrus, the legendary red from Bordeaux’s Right Bank whose reds can command $3,000+ a bottle. Already a winemaking legend, Christian has also been named Decanter “Man of the Year” – and thanks to our long friendship, today you can enjoy a rare taste of his winemaking talent at a very attractive price.
This barrel-aged, Merlot-rich red is crafted from premium fruit grown in top-sited vineyards (much of which comes from the Moueix family’s own estate). It displays the hallmark elegance and purity of the world-famous Saint-Emilion region and the concentrated flavors of the excellent 2016 vintage, which produced “absolutely remarkable wines,” says Antonio Galloni.
In the glass, you can look forward to a seductive, smoky, red berry bouquet with layers of dark fruit framed by toasty oak and fine-grained tannins. Christian makes the most famous Merlot in the world – and this is a beautifully smooth, well-structured expression of Saint-Emilion's classic grape. Decant 30 minutes to an hour before serving, and pair with hearty red meat dishes. Drinking deliciously already (a hallmark of the vintage), it will continue to evolve nicely over the next decade with careful cellaring.
Given the high demand for Bordeaux right now (2017 was an exceptionally small harvest, so supply is short), early orders of this Private Reserve are highly recommended.
