Beyond the Label

“Christian Moueix is one of the true wise men of Bordeaux,” writes Wine Spectator.

Decades ago, Christian Moueix’s family moved into a small and (at the time) relatively unknown district of France’s famed Bordeaux: Pomerol. Led by his father Jean-Pierre, they not only made great wine there, they helped elevate Pomerol to become one of Bordeaux’s top regions.

Christian Moueix might be best known for running iconic Pomerol estate Château Pétrus for 38 years, but today, he also makes a fine selection of wines under his own label – including a few impressive exclusives for our customers. But this Private Reserve release is extra special ...

Presented in a 1.5-liter MAGNUM (equal to two regular bottles), this Private Reserve combines carefully selected parcels of Merlot and more from Christian’s vineyards in Pomerol and Saint-Emilion. Christian personally oversaw the winemaking process, ensuring that the final wine embodies the classic, balanced, and elegant style so prized by Bordeaux fans. It’s not only a showcase of Christian’s expertise, but also of 2016, which represents “the new renaissance of Bordeaux ... an outstanding vintage” (critic James Suckling).

Here’s Christian on what to expect in the glass:
“After all these years of friendship, it was my pleasure to produce this special cuvée, made in honor of Tony Laithwaite’s fantastic adventure that started 50 years ago. Smooth and rich, my Private Reserve displays luscious layers of soft tannins and ripe, supple berry and wild cherry flavors. It’s delicious to drink now, but will develop even further with a few years of cellaring. Enjoy!”

Christian only made 30 barrels of this special anniversary release, and it will never be made again. Hurry to secure your magnum bottle.
