Flavor Profile
Fire & Foal Sauvignon Blanc is a bright and zippy, light bodied white wine from South Africa. Easy and uncomplicated, it offers lovely tropical and stone fruit flavors, and easy-going acidity.
As you may guess from its label, the wine is meant to pay homage to the beautiful creature that inspired it. Fire was born a carriage horse, but the Conradi family—her owners and the winemakers—could never bring themselves to put her unbridled joy under a harness.
(In addition to the wine, an old photo of Fire and her foal sits in the winery’s tasting room for visitors.).
Most of the grapes used to make it hail from the “valley of wine and roses,” Robertson—one of South Africa’s best vineyard areas. The hot and sunny climate results in ripe and healthy grapes that are fermented at cool temps to lock in flavor.
The result is as energetic as the horse that inspired it, practically leaping from the glass with vibrant notes of gooseberry, passion fruit and lemon zest. Sip it solo as an aperitif or alongside spiced curry, fresh seafood and more.
