Beyond the Label

Its recent elevation to cru status (alongside Châteauneuf-du-Pape and Gigondas) has “propelled Rasteau reds into the big leagues,” says Decanter. This tiny corner of France’s southern Rhône Valley is home to full-flavored, Grenache-heavy reds—and Domaine Martin is a perfect example.

Domaine Martin is a boutique, family-owned operation (since 1905), now run by fifth-generation brothers David and Eric Martin. Their old vines yield only a small amount of grapes, but thanks an excellent vintage, the fruit they did produce ripened to perfection. This is a classic Rhône blend of Grenache, Syrah and Mourvèdre. After twelve months’ barrel aging in oak casks, Domain Martin brims with rich fruit flavors and a long, smooth finish. This wine will delight alongside roasted meats, hearty stews and more.
