Flavor Profile
Its recent elevation to cru status (alongside Châteauneuf-du-Pape and Gigondas) has “propelled Rasteau reds into the big leagues,” says Decanter. This tiny corner of France’s southern Rhône Valley is home to full-flavored, Grenache-heavy reds—and Domaine Martin is a perfect example.
Domaine Martin is a boutique, family-owned operation (since 1905), now run by fifth-generation brothers David and Eric Martin. Their old vines yield only a small amount of grapes, but thanks an excellent vintage, the fruit they did produce ripened to perfection. As Decanter’s Rhône expert Matt Walls reports, “2023 vintages will give pleasure immediately…juicy, fresh and ripe, with a touch of classic Rasteau sucrosité.”
This is a classic Rhône blend of Grenache, Syrah and Mourvèdre. After twelve months’ barrel aging in oak casks, Domain Martin brims with rich fruit flavors and a long, smooth finish. This wine will delight alongside roasted meats, hearty stews and more.
