Beyond the Label

Pomerol is a magical word for Bordeaux fans – famed for wines that bowl you over with their opulence and finesse. The most sought-after can command $1,000s a bottle – so it pays to have friends in the right places …

For 38 years, Christian Moueix was the driving force behind Château Pétrus – perhaps the most sought-after (and priciest) Bordeaux of all. And because we’ve worked with him for years, today you enjoy exclusive U.S. access to his Château Chantalouette – long recognized as one of the smartest buys in Pomerol – from the excellent 2016 vintage.

“The Moueixs were the cornerstones of my early education of the wines of Pomerol.”
– critic Robert Parker

Indeed, Christian’s irreproachable reds are, for most Bordeaux lovers (not just Parker), the Right Bank benchmark. That’s why they’re notoriously difficult to come by. Château Chantalouette is made at the landmark Château de Sales estate. It’s so delicious (and such good value), that most of it never makes it out of France. But thanks to our long friendship with Christian, we were able to secure a small allocation of the stunning 2016.

This is a classic, barrel-aged blend of Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Cabernet Sauvignon – ripe, dense, and dark, with a lovely, savory edge to the finish. It’s already delicious at this young age, but will reward careful cellaring for the next decade.

Just a handful of cases imported – hurry for your share.

Richly fruited with a generously long finish. This is a great, early-drinking Pomerol.
