Capitanio Riserva 2015
The Botter family’s southern Riserva is from the tiny Biferno region (prized for its bold reds). A ripe-fruited Montepulciano-Aglianico, Capitanio was aged in oak barrel for a year and spent four more years in the bottle for extra velvety-smoothness.
We're sorry, this wine is sold out.

Beyond the Label

We have to admit – when the Botter family’s southern Italian Riserva arrived in our cellars, we were pretty captivated. With its traditional wax seal and twine closure, it cuts a striking form on any table.

But it’s not just the bottle that’s impressive.

Capitanio hails from Biferno – a tiny district that’s tucked away in the Molise region and renowned for producing really intense reds. There’s well under 100 acres planted to vine here, and the Botters own a top-sited vineyard. Our Italian wine expert, Leo, tasted their blend of Montepulciano (the region’s star grape) and Aglianico on his last visit to their cellars. He was so impressed with the quality, he worked out a deal on the spot. And you’ll be glad he did.

Thanks to a patient, extended aging period – 12 months in oak barrel with another four years in bottle – Capitanio Riserva brims with robust flavors of plum and blackberry, plus hints of smooth spice. Just the thing for hearty ragùs or meaty manicotti.
