Flavor Profile
From Rioja’s highest-elevation vineyard and the region’s most-awarded cellar comes the latest (and maybe greatest) work yet from Amaia Amestoy: Altos de la Guardia Reserva Coleccion Privada, a long-aged Tempranillo with a board palate of rich and spicy red fruit flavors.
Amaia is the head winemaker at Altos de Rioja, a top boutique winery in—you guessed it—Rioja.
And when we say "top," we really mean it in every sense of the word. Founded by Château Haut Brion-trained winemaker Jean-Marc Sauboua, Altos is known for its quality-driven approach and has won literally hundreds of awards to prove it. But it also works with vineyards that are among the highest in the Rioja Alavesa appellation—between 1,900 and 2,300 feet above sea level.
Not to mention, Rioja is Spain’s most important, most popular and most coveted region.’
Part of their Coleccion Privada (“Private Collection”), this artisanal Reserva was crafted in 2009 and matured to perfection, first in oak and then even longer in bottle. The result offers higher quality and more complexity than a basic Rioja bottling, with deeper fruit flavors and prominent tones of vanilla and spice.
A word to the wise: Quantities are extremely limited. Order as soon as you can.
