Beyond the Label

In France's Loire Valley, a region known for world-class Sauvignon Blanc like Sancerre and Pouilly-Fumé, Abbesse stands out for its vibrant grassy-citrus aromas, lovely stone fruit palate and overall quality-to-price ratio.

It comes to us from winemaker Noël Bougrier, the latest generation to helm the celebrated estate of his family, who’ve made fine Sauvignon Blanc in the region since the mid 1880s. The wine is meant to honor the verve of Louise de Bourbon, a French noblewoman, nun and norm-breaker extraordinaire who famously secured a rare papal dispensation to renovate her ancient abbey.

(A winged ‘L’ was her trademark—hence the bottle’s label.)

Refreshing, energetic and easy to drink, it offers leap-from-the-glass lime aromas that lead into a peachy keen, zippy palate. It’s a go-to aperitif that’s equally tasty served with its traditional (and delicious) companion, goat cheese.

The Bougrier family’s Sauvignon Blancs are always popular with our customers and this bottling is no exception. Stock up while we have plenty in stock.
